Sustainability & Regenerative Tourism

Tourism That Gives Back

At The Vale of Pickering Caravan Park, we understand that nature came before us, and we therefore have a responsibility to protect, conserve and enhance it for generations to come. We are committed to looking beyond simply reducing our environmental impact and to finding ways in which our park, our guests and our business can make a positive contribution to the environment and the local community.

We continuously look for ways to reduce our impact on the environment and take pride in the initiatives that we have already implemented. These include push-button showers to help conserve water, energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the park, and our Store & Stay facility, which enables guests to leave their caravans on site between visits and can help reduce the fuel consumption associated with towing. Guests are also encouraged to separate recycling waste from general waste and utilise the designated on-site recycling point.

We are also committed to actively enhancing the natural environment within the park. In January 2026, we planted a further 500 shrubs and hedging plants, helping to strengthen natural habitats, provide food and shelter for wildlife and support the rich biodiversity found across our site. We see this as an important part of our ongoing commitment to leaving the natural environment in a better position for the future.

Supporting Our Local Community

We believe that supporting and encouraging the use of local businesses, producers and attractions is also an important part of creating a sustainable and resilient local economy.

We actively promote nearby attractions and seek opportunities to work with local businesses, encouraging our guests to explore the surrounding area and support the communities in which we operate.

Where possible, we also choose local suppliers for our on-site shop and café. Our current range includes products from: Turner's of Rillington Butchers, Wold Top Brewery, Yorkshire Flapjack, Roost Coffee and Yo-Bake House, allowing our guests to enjoy and support independent Yorkshire based businesses.

Looking To The Future

Our commitment to regenerative tourism is ongoing. We will continue to look for opportunities to enhance biodiversity, reduce resource consumption, support local businesses and encourage our guests to enjoy and appreciate the natural and cultural assets of North Yorkshire.
